I am an SL live music enthusiast and explaining the whole experience of SL to others can certainly be a challenge! We are, as Second Life residents, truly blessed to be able to experience such a diverse, incredible group of talented musicians....all absolutely free! As you said, you can of course purchase stuff like land and clothes but the beauty is you don't have to. A computer with a halfway decent graphics card, an internet connection and some speakers or headphones is all that's needed to enjoy the shows.
